【Blogger】リダイレクトエラーを打破!?m=1を逆手に取った登録術 / How to Fix "Redirect Error" with ?m=1 Hack

*English version is below.

<link expr:href='data:blog.canonicalUrl' rel='canonical'/>

【Blogger Custom Domain】How to Fix "Redirect Error" in GSC: A "Reverse Thinking" Hack Using ?m=1

Hi everyone, I’m Liberte Papa. As I sit here listening to the lively voices of my three children, I’m soaking in that ultimate "engineer's high."

If you run a Blogger site with a custom domain, you’ve likely faced the dreaded "Redirect Error" in Google Search Console (GSC). It’s a frustrating loop where the "Live Test" passes, but the "Indexing Request" fails every single time. Today, I’ll share how I 100% solved this using "Reverse Thinking."

1. The Root Cause: Why the "Redirect Error" Occurs

By default, Blogger automatically redirects mobile users to a URL ending in ?m=1. When the Googlebot (Smartphone) tries to crawl your canonical URL, it gets caught in this redirect. Google then flags it as an "unintended redirect," and your page is excluded from the index. This is the "Redirect Error" trap.

2. The Solution: Liberte Papa’s Two-Step Strategy

【Step 1】 The Defensive Anchor: Install the Canonical Tag

First, you MUST add this line within the <head> section of your Blogger HTML:

<link expr:href='data:blog.canonicalUrl' rel='canonical'/>

You might think, "Is this even necessary?" Yes, it is crucial. This tag acts as a "passport" that tells Google: "No matter which door you entered through, this (the URL without ?m=1) is the official version." Without this, you risk being penalized for duplicate content.

【Step 2】 The Offensive Strike: Direct Request via "?m=1" URL

This was my "Eureka!" moment. If Googlebot is desperate to see the mobile version (?m=1), why not just give it what it wants from the start?

The Procedure:

  1. Manually append ?m=1 to the end of the URL you want to register.

  2. Enter this full URL into the GSC "URL Inspection" tool.

  3. Click "Request Indexing" directly.

3. Verification: Confirming the "Truth" After Registration

Once GSC says "URL is on Google," you’ve won. However, you might notice two things that cause concern—don't worry:

  • Concern ①: The "Google-selected canonical" in GSC shows ?m=1 → Google is simply prioritizing the URL it successfully crawled for the time being.

  • Concern ②: The search result URL still displays ?m=1 → This is just a temporary "status report." Your content is correctly indexed.

【The Smoking Gun Evidence】 Search for site:[Your URL] (without the ?m=1). If your page appears in the results, it means the internal mapping is complete. Google has successfully linked the ?m=1 crawl to your clean, canonical URL. In a few days, Google’s "cleanup" will automatically remove the ?m=1 from the display URL.

4. Conclusion: A Dad’s Debugging Log

This trial-and-error process taught me an important lesson: "Don't fight the system's quirks; embrace them and then take control."

  • 0 points: Excluded due to errors (Existence denied).

  • 90 points: Indexed and appearing in search (Where I am now!).

  • 100 points: A few days later, the URL display is clean and perfect.

Raising three kids often means things don't go according to plan—and debugging a blog is no different! Stay persistent and stay logical.

I hope this article saves Blogger users around the world!
